Sarah Minns

Sarah Minns is a London based Soprano. Her operatic career began at 18 when she created the role of Verity for the world premiere of Jago by Mike Westbrook (broadcast on BBC Radio 3). Being exposed to contemporary opera at such a young age has inspired a lifelong passion for new writing. Houseplants have always featured in the Minns household. Sarah’s first houseplant happened to be a Busy Lizzie (impatiens walleriana), so not really a houseplant at all. It was intended for the flowerbed in Sarah’s childhood home, but Sarah wouldn’t allow her mum to plant it. She loved it too much, all its stripes and its colours, she wanted it all to herself. Reading Emily’s words for Houseplants brought that old relationship back to life again.

Sarah trained at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She has worked as a soloist with most of the national companies and opera festivals in the UK including Opera Holland Park, Opera North, Welsh National Opera, Grange Park Opera, Longborough Festival Opera. She has been described as “one of the most capable actors in classical singing”, her voice praised for its “needlepoint vocal accuracy and an impressive dramatic range”. Sarah’s next project is a one-woman opera at the Edinburgh festival. Monodramas have become something of a specialism, ‘My Life Online’ by the American composer Scott Eyerly will be Sarah’s 6th one-woman opera project. 14th-26th August 2023.
