Rebecca Hallett

Rebecca is a photographer born and raised in Maidstone, whose artistic inspirations include work from the likes of Jason Evans, Martin Parr, and Jo Metson Scott. Within her work, Rebecca strives to capture the natural beauty of all her subjects, working with the ‘preowned’ to get conscious consumption into mainstream media. She strives for her work to evoke a sense of nostalgia and represent the personality of preloved items, overlooked, and discarded. Rebecca also focuses in on a connection with nature, that draws from its beauty rather than take from it. In this sense, she focuses on sustainability and human impact on the planet, using a photography platform to redefine what the industry can bring to the table. In this respect, she can see how pivotal the relationship is between humans and nature, particularly respecting the life cycle of plants and the environment alike.

Rebecca is a recent graduate from The University for the Creative Arts, with a 2:1 in Photography. Her latest achievements include being a part of graduate showcases, most notably exhibiting her photobook project, ‘Brand New’, at the Freerange Gallery (Truman Brewery), in Shoreditch, London. Said book, explores the preowned and preloved, shining a light on vintage fashion, little eccentricities, and the personality of items with plenty of life still left to live. Furthermore, collaborations with small sustainable businesses have further connected her with the second-hand marketplace. Utilising her photographic knowledge, she has been able to aid in the advertising of new collections for a plethora of companies. Such companies include the uniquely named, ‘Cashew The Cactus’, an upcycling jewellery business, reusing old beads and giving single use plastics a new lease of life. As well as, ‘Unscrapped Studio’, an upcycling clothing business, who take old denim and create new garments in a bid to reduce post-consumer waste.
